Squash Getting Busy

Did you know that some squash plants have flowers? Yeah, me too. Did you know they have male and female flowers? No, seriously, they do! Rather they are

supposed to if you want squash. The male flowers tend to appear earlier than the female flowers. The female flowers can be finicky and dislike poor weather. You know, too hot and dry, wet and humid, cold and... well, finicky. This year our butternut squash has decided male flowers only. All we can do is be patient. There is nothing else we can do to help. Eventually, the squash will decide to do the right thing. So, in the mean time, we will keep watching, waiting and hoping, that the pumpkins fare better! Meanwhile, enjoy a photo of a female flower on our squash!
