Signs of Spring

It's spring; despite the lingering cold! Those fall bulbs that everyone helped us plant have started to push through the soil and flower. Now that - finally - the first signs of spring have been spotted it means that it is time to start our seedlings. We feel as if we are behind schedule since at this time last year we had already started seeds, harvested lettuce, and directly sown some of the more cold hardy plants. Yes, we just said that today we are starting seeds inside and a year ago today we were harvesting lettuce outside. All of this spring weather made us feel like grilling; we had a spring "Harvest" dinner. It consisted of smoked chicken wings in two styles: sweet bar-b-Que and spicy buffalo. "Harvest" dinner came from the home grown and self-fermented hot sauce that became the base for the buffalo seasoning. While home grown curry paste with locally harvested Vermont honey kicked up the flavor in the sweet bar-b-que sauce. They were amazing! Of course we had to have it all with a side of home-grown, fermented pickles and a glass of home brew or house made hard cider.
